Liaison Engineer (Technology & Innovation Steward) Proposal
Introduction:
It has been a great privilege to witness and facilitate the expansion of Unlock Protocol and Unlock DAO. As Unlock Protocol and Unlock DAO are positioned for continued growth and widespread adoption, I am eager to maintain my involvement in realizing this objective. Consequently, I hereby request the renewal of my role as liaison engineer to further support the Unlock Protocol DAO during this upcoming phase.
Role Description: The role of the Liaison Engineer focuses on driving innovation and working on technical development for DAO-related projects and in close collaboration with the Unlock Labs team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Research & Development:
- Conduct technical research on new initiatives, tools, and applications that could benefit the DAO.
- Develop proofs of concept (PoCs) and prototypes for proposed solutions.
- Evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of technical proposals from the community and the DAO.
- Coordination & Collaboration:
- Act as a technical bridge between the DAO and the Labs team, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration.
- Coordinate with the Labs team to understand their capabilities, timelines, and potential support for DAO-initiated projects.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer between the DAO and Labs team, ensuring both parties are aligned on technical matters.
- Community Engagement & Support:
- Engage with the community to gather requirements and feedback for approved initiatives where necessary.
- Implementation & Maintenance:
- Lead the implementation of specific technical initiatives as approved by the DAO.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and upgrades of DAO-initiated technical projects.
Proposed Term Initiatives:
To optimize growth, visibility, and protocol adoption the following strategic initiatives are proposed for implementation during the upcoming term, in addition to moving forward with the Gitcoin passport integration application from the previous term:
- Governance AI Agent - Building on the foundations of the ‘Farcaster voting Bot’ the Governance AI Agent will:
- Answer questions about DAO governance based on DAO onchain proposals history.
- Announce new proposals and status updates.
- Fee Collector AI Agent:
- Execute Unlock DAO onchain recurring actions (e.g., protocol fee transactions).
- Newsletter Automation/Agent:
- Generate DAO newsletters from natural language via voice or text, or based on specific triggers such as a schedule or event.
- Content Automation:
- RAG-based (Retrieval Augmented Generation) content generation to promote DAO online presence and adoption.
- DAO Lock/Subscription:
- Access control for use of agents and revenue generation.
Potential Impact
- Revenue Generation: The DAO Lock/Subscription initiative offers a direct path to revenue generation through access control for AI agents.
- Demonstrating Unlock's AI Integration: This proposal provides a real-world showcase of how Unlock Protocol can be seamlessly integrated with AI agents, highlighting its versatility and potential.
- Increased Online Presence: Content automation will lead to a more consistent and expanded online presence for the DAO, enhancing visibility and engagement.
- Enhanced Governance Awareness and Participation: Regular announcements and updates on various platforms, driven by the Governance AI Agent, will significantly increase awareness and participation in DAO governance.
- Increased Protocol Adoption: By demonstrating a successful model of Unlock's application within the DAO, other DAOs, communities, or creators may be inspired to adopt the protocol, leading to broader usage and growth.
Costs
To effectively implement the aforementioned initiatives, the utilization of various services and APIs is necessary, which will incur associated costs. The currently identified services can be found in the proposal document (link attached); however, this list is not exhaustive, and additional services may be required depending on the automation requirements.
Previous Milestones
During the last mandate, I shipped 9+ deliverables, including:
- A Farcaster Bot API.
- Payment of 5% Front-End Fee in Arbitrum Tokens (ARB) for ApeBond Bonding Services.
- Governance script to Add Liquidity to Uniswap pool.
- Multiple on-chain proposal implementations.
- Submitted multiple PRs (pull requests).
Measuring Impact
To assess performance and impact in this role, key performance indicators (KPIs) can be established, including:
- Project Delivery: Number of AI Agents and/or automations successfully delivered within scope.
- Collaboration Effectiveness: Feedback from both the DAO and Labs team on the effectiveness of communication and collaboration.
- Impact: Measurable improvements in DAO operations or processes resulting from implemented technical solutions.
- Issue Resolution: Response time and effectiveness in addressing technical support requests from the DAO.
Implementation Roadmap
The roadmap for July to December 2025 focuses on developing and implementing several key AI agents and a revenue model:
- Community-lock revenue model (Jul-Aug): A "DAO Tools" lock will be introduced to control access to agents and resources, establishing a direct revenue stream.
- Governance AI Agent v1 (Aug-Sep): This agent will enhance DAO transparency and member engagement by answering questions and automatically announcing new proposals.
- Fee-Collector Agent (Sep-Oct): Automation of recurring protocol fee transactions will streamline operations and reduce manual effort.
- Newsletter Agent (Oct-Nov): This agent will automate newsletter generation from various knowledge sources, leveraging natural language and specific triggers to keep the community informed.
- Automated Content Generation (Nov-Dec): Using RAG to boost DAO's online presence and adoption.
Compensation:
The proposed term is 12-months. Performance and terms may be reviewed after 6-months. This structure aims to fairly remunerate for the responsibilities and value provided. Details can be found in the proposal document.
